Lomé Container Terminal in Togo
Realtime Business Solutions (RBS) won a contract to implement its TOPS Advance TOS at the new Lomé Container Terminal (LCT) at the port of Lomé in Togo, managed by TIL and China Merchants.
LCT ordered the complete TOPS suite with foundation and operations system, web frontend and KPI tool. LCT expands the existing facilities of the harbor to enable large container carriers, up to 14.500 TEU to enter the port of Lomé and deploys state-of-the-art container handling equipment. LCT will become a vital transshipment hub in the region to serve TIL’s customers and a gateway to serve the landlocked countries of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso and to the northern areas of Nigeria.
The RBS TOS is a vital component to provide best-in-class service to LCT’s customers and to operate the terminal in an efficient and effective way. LCT plans to build and operate facilities, including a dock with several berths and a large 48ha container storage area. LCT plans to handle 400,000 to 500,000 TEU per year, within a period of 2 to 3 years. After construction is completed, the terminal capacity will be 2,000,000 TEU. The LCT project contributes largely to the country’s economy and employment. At full capacity, the terminal will directly employ 670 skilled collaborators.
A multiple of indirect employment will be established. “RBS is enlarging the footprint, the LCT project is a big step forward into this part of Africa and establishes RBS as a vital part of the business in the region. LCT will be one of the biggest terminals in the region and the major T/S hub for MSC in Africa”, says N. Klettner, Managing Director RBS EMEA. RBS started implementing the TOS project work in January 2013. The target is to finalise phase one by summer 2014. RBS EMEA is the implementation partner of the terminal managing the project together with LCT. LCT is the fourth TIL terminal implementing the TOPS Advance system. Product, project methodology and services have proved to fully meet TIL’s needs and to support their business.

LCT is a new built terminal in the port of Lomé, Togo. It is a joint venture project of Terminal Investment Limited S.A. and China Merchant International Holding. It will be part of the MSC network and act as the major transshipment hub in the Region.
