Last month, the TOC Europe in Rotterdam brought together leaders and innovators from the port and terminal industry to discuss the latest advancements and future directions in terminal operations. The highlight of this year's event was the focus on driving digital agendas through advanced technological solutions, particularly the introduction of cloud-based Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) and fully integrated 3D digital twins using AI features to allow terminals taking data driven decisions.

One of the topics, that we discussed a lot with visitors, partners and customers, was the "TOPS Intelligence 3D," a cutting-edge integrated digital twin solution. This technology is designed to be fully TIC4.0 (#wetalktic) enabled, ensuring that it meets the latest industry standards for interoperability and communication. The digital twin technology allows terminals to create a virtual replica of their operations, facilitating real-time monitoring, operational forecasting, and more sophisticated scheduling and dispatching decisions. The key on the TOS integrated digital twin is the direct interaction with the operation. Our real-time TOS benefits from this directly in operational decisions for execution.

The benefits of adopting a cloud-based TOS were also a significant topic of discussion. Moving to a cloud TOS offers terminals enhanced scalability, flexibility, and efficiency. It supports seamless integration with various digital tools and platforms, ensuring that terminals can stay ahead in the fast-evolving digital landscape. Also often discussed was a phased cloud approach where only part of the TOS run in the cloud.
