Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP)

BTP, one of Brazil’s highest profile and most important port projects, mainly serves the Sao Paulo region, Brazil’s most populated city and the 7th largest city in the world. BTP is a fifty-fifty joint venture of Terminal Investment Limited (TIL) and APM Terminals. The BTP container terminal provides additional terminal capacity to the port of Santos, coping with recent bottle necks and shortages within the Santos terminal facilities. The first operation started in August 2013 with the official opening ceremony in November 2013.

The Santos BTP terminal boasts a 490 thousand m² area, a quay length of 1108 meters, 8 ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, 26 rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs), 40 terminal trucks, and an automated 18 lane gate, handling and managing trucks entering and exiting the terminal facility. The terminal is capable of handling 2.5 million TEUs per year and the estimated annual liquid bulk handling capacity is 2.0 million tons.

Right from the beginning of the project Real-time Business Solutions (RBS) set up a close and very successful partnership with BTP. RBS EMEA did not only implement the TOS, together with colleagues from the RBS head office and of course in close cooperation with the BTP project team, RBS EMEA also provided project services (Project Management, Testing and QA, Training, Support, etc.). Also the integration with the local custom HOST solution to integrate all the official layer in the port of Santos played a big role in the project.

The complete TOPS suite with the foundation (TOPO) and the operations (TOPX) system modules was implemented at the terminal facility in 2013. The BTP installation is the first RBS implementation on the South American continent (apart from an installation running in Panama).

BTP is setting new benchmarks in the area of terminal productivity and services. Only two months after the inauguration of the BTP terminal it became and still is the second best performing terminal in Brazil with regard to terminal productivity. In addition to BTP’s increasing productivity rate, the terminal also succeeded in reducing the number of truck cycles considerably – a critical measurement of performance at a container facility. It is one of the biggest facilities in that part of the world.
